This orginal painting floats on linen matboard and is conservation framed to 42 x 32, as shown in the photograph of “Phalaenopsis Silky Moon.“
I paint with soft pastels, because they are pure, luxurious pigment and retain a velvet texture, reminiscent of skin and petals. “Cymbidium Summer Pearl” is painted with lightfast, archival-quality pastels from Sennelier of Paris, on museum-grade Wallis sanded paper.
I marvel at how nature repeats the same structure in various organisms. This phenomenon speaks to me of the truth that divine, universal intelligence exists in all life forms. I believe that there is a center of procreation in all living things. I have heard this center described as a vortex of love consciousness. In Hinduism, it is called the base, or root chakra. My orchid-inspired paintings are expressions of root chakra forms I see in nature, in particular blossoms, shell life and the female form.
What a blessing to find affirmation of the creative source in all that is. You and I and this painting are all part of that source–and because the source is perfect, so are we.
